Happily Ever After is the current fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World, Florida. The nighttime spectacular first debuted in 2017, and quickly became a fan favorite for its compelling storytelling and beautiful firework display. Then, in 2021, the acclaimed fireworks display took a brief hiatus to make way for Enchantment, the new fireworks show for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration. However, on April 3rd, 2023, Happily Ever After made its grand return to the Magic Kingdom, complete with new and improved projections that extended all the way down Main Street U.S.A, as well as new projections that included more recent Disney movies. These new updates resulted in Happily Ever After becoming even more popular, making it even harder to grab a spot for the nighttime spectacular. That being said, for each fireworks viewing sport that there is, there are specific pros and cons. In this article, I will be going through the various viewing spots for HEA, and what you need to do to secure them.

Right in Front of The Castle
The most highly coveted spot for Main Street firework viewing is undoubtedly the space right in front of Cinderella’s Castle. During the fireworks show, there are some stunning projections on the castle, and the best spot to view these projections is between the partner's statue and the castle. These beautiful projections tell a compelling story with small details that you might miss if you aren’t up close. That being said, to obtain this popular spot, you must sacrifice a good portion of your evening at the Magic Kingdom. To get a spot this close to the castle, you must arrive about 60 minutes prior to the start of the fireworks. Once this area becomes full, cast members will rope it off and turn you away if you try to go there to view the fireworks. Additionally, although this spot is perfect for viewing the castle projections, it is not the best for viewing the actual fireworks themselves, as the castle would be blocking them from that view. In sum, this fireworks viewing spot is for you if you prioritize the castle projections, and don’t mind staking out in front of the castle for a spot.

The Hub
In my opinion, the hub is the best place to view Happily Ever After. As opposed to the space right in front of the castle, you get a good view of both the fireworks and the castle projections from the hub. Naturally, since you are not as close to the castle as you would be in the first spot, you would not get as clear of a view of the castle projections. However, the view of the projections is still pretty clear. Since this is also a highly coveted spot to view the fireworks from, you must arrive relatively early to secure it. For this spot, you should arrive about 45 minutes prior to the start of the fireworks. This spot fills up fast, so make sure you get there on time! If not, a cast member will direct you away from the area. Ultimately, the hub is the perfect spot for those who want a good view of both the castle projections and the fireworks.
The Middle of Main Street
Another spot to view the fireworks is Main Street U.S.A. This spot is by far the largest out of all the viewing spots, meaning it has the highest capacity for people. Since this spot stretches down the entirety of main street, the quality of viewing is different depending on the proximity to the castle. If you stand on main street closer to the castle, you will have a better view of the castle projections than if you were to stand farther away. Regardless of where you stand on main street, you will have a great view of the literal fireworks, as you are far enough away from the castle to see them on a full scale. Another thing that is constant across all spots on main street is that you have access to the main street projections. These projections are stunning, and will provide a firework viewing experience that is unique to Main street. In my opinion, these projections make you feel like you are in the story of Happily Ever After, and are a reason to stand on Main Street for the fireworks. A major pro of standing on Main Street for the fireworks is that you do not have to get there at a specific time to secure a spot. Unlike the aforementioned spots, cast members do not close off Main Street to firework viewers at a certain time. This makes it so you can get in place a minute before by going into one of the Main Street shops and then popping outside into the crowd. Nonetheless, if you want a specific spot on Main Street, such as the very top of it, I would suggest getting there about 30 minutes before. Unfortunately, since people can just pop into spots the minute before the fireworks, there is not a set way to make sure your view will not be blocked during the fireworks. This can lead to some sight lines being obstructed during the fireworks. In the end, Main Street is a great place to watch the fireworks if you don’t want to get there early, want to see the Main street projections, and do not mind the possibility of having your view completely obstructed.

The Back of Main Street
The back of Main Street is what I like to call the “quick escape” spot. What this means, is that this spot is great if you want to beat the crowds on the way out of Magic Kingdom, because the amount of people trying to leave can be overwhelming at times. By standing in the back of Main Street, you can beat these crowds, simply because you are closer to the exit than them. Although this spot is great for a quick escape, the actual view of the fireworks is not the best. You are quite far away from the castle, making it so the projections are very hard to see. In some spots, there are buildings blocking your view of the castle, and at times, the fireworks. With that in mind, these spots on the back of Main Street are similar to those in the middle of it, in the sense that you do not need to get there early. This makes these spots perfect for both a quick entrance and quick exit. Though, a spot towards the back of Main Street that does provide good views is the top floor of the Main Street Train Station. This spot provides a centered view down Main Street. Another perk about this spot is that it is elevated, so there is not as much worry about being blocked by people’s heads, because you are above people's heads! The issue with the top floor of the Main Street Train Station is that it is sometimes roped off for special events. Additionally, this is a high demand spot, so you need to get there about 30 minutes before the start of the fireworks. In a word, choose a spot towards the back of main street if you need to make a “quick escape”, and don’t mind the possibility of your view being compromised.
Some photos I've taken standing in the back of Main Street during HEA!

Around Magic Kingdom
There are some spots around Magic Kingdom that do not require you to actually be on Main Street U.S.A to enjoy the fireworks. Obviously, you will not get the same experience that you would in a traditional fireworks spot, but these spots allow for you to see the fireworks without having to deal with the Main Street crowds. What's more: in some parts of Magic Kingdom, specifically Fantasyland, the music that corresponds with the fireworks spectacular is played through the speakers, so guests watching from locations other than Fantasyland can enjoy watching the fireworks synced up with the music. As for specific spots around Magic Kingdom that I would specifically recommend, I would say behind King Arthur’s Carousel, or by the entrance to Tomorrowland from Fantasyland. The Tomorrowland spot is also good for getting an angled spot of the castle projections! In the end, although these spots are unconventional, they allow for you to view the fireworks without the Main Street crowds, and they allow you to have easy access to rides after the fireworks are done.

Resort Viewing
If you don’t have park tickets, or you just don’t want to be in the Magic Kingdom during the fireworks, watching the fireworks from a resort in close proximity to the Magic Kingdom is an option. My personal favorite spot is on the beach at the Polynesian Resort. The music plays along the beaches, so you won’t miss out on the fan favorite Happily Ever After soundtrack. Out of all of the viewing options that are outside of the Magic Kingdom, spots at the Polynesian Resort are definitely the most centered. Another great option is outside the Gasparilla Island Grill at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa! Like the Polynesian beach, they pipe in the tunes from the firework show, providing for an enjoyable fireworks experience. The beaches at the Wilderness Lodge Resort can also be good for firework viewing. Although I would not recommend this spot because it is quite far from the Magic Kingdom, watching the fireworks from the Wilderness Lodge beaches is a relaxing experience, as it is not very crowded, and they pipe the music in here as well. This next spot is the walkway between the Contemporary and Bay Lake Tower, and it has proven to be a hidden gem of a spot. There are a few benches, and the area is usually not crowded because most people do not know about it. Finally, I could not talk about firework viewing locations outside of the Magic Kingdom without talking about California Grille. California Grille is the upscale restaurant on the top floor of the Contemporary Resort. If you snag a reservation during the time that the fireworks are playing that day, you can watch the fireworks, listen to the music which is piped in through speakers, and enjoy some of the finest dining in all of Disney World.

Final Thoughts
All in all, what constitutes a “good” fireworks viewing experience is completely up to you, and what you want to get out of your firework viewing experience. Each spot has its pros and cons, but ultimately, which spot you chose should be determined by your values and needs. Below, I have created a table containing the ideas from this article to help you decide which fireworks viewing spot you want to try out. Have a great time watching the fireworks, and in the words of the fireworks spectacular itself, “reach out and find your Happily Ever After!”
Viewing Spot | Pros | Cons | Other |
Right in front of the castle | Clear view of the castle projections | Must get there about 60 min early, not great view of the fireworks | Cast members rope this area off after it is filled |
The Hub | Clear view of the castle projections, clear view of fireworks | Must get there about 45 min early | Cast members rope this area off after it is filled |
The middle of Main Street | Main street projections, clear view of fireworks, do not need to arrive early | Not the clearest view of castle projections, lots of possibilities of people obstructing your view | Can go through the shops to access this spot without having to stake it out |
The back of Main Street | “Quick escape”, do not need to arrive early | Not the best view of castle projections or actual fireworks | Can also watch the fireworks from the top of the Main Street Train Station if available, but it fills up fast. This specific spot provides for clear viewing of the fireworks |
Spots around the Magic Kingdom | No Main Street crowds, easy access to rides afterwards | In most cases, you can’t see the castle projections, and music is only played in certain places | Suggested spots include behind King Arthur’s Carousel, entrance to Tomorrowland from FantasyLand (angled castle projections viewing) |
Resorts surrounding the Magic Kingdom | No Magic Kingdom crowds, no park ticket, relaxing atmosphere | Generally poor views of the fireworks and projections due to distance | Some suggested spots include the Polynesian Beach, outside of Gasparilla Island Grill, Wilderness Lodge Beach, walkway in between Contemporary and Bay Lake Tower, California Grill |

Very informative! I will definitely be using this next time I go to Disney!
